Recently, both a client and a student brought up their concerns about red flags in the death doula profession. My client’s last death doula was a bit of a hoarder, and in a separate instance, my student wondered about a mentor who had a noticeable combination of facelifts, fillers, and lip plumping work done to their face.
Identifying red flags in death doulas is important. This is because, in an unregulated profession, we must build our reputation on a foundation of trust and vulnerability. We are invited into our client’s most intimate moments.
Who we are matters.

I don’t care what or how people do, as long as they’re not hurting anyone. And I don’t usually weigh in publicly about women’s beauty habits.
