Mindful meditation, often called mindfulness meditation, means focusing one's attention on the present moment. This is done deliberately and without judgment. It’s also one of the only times I actually guide my clients.
We use mindfulness meditation as a form of mental training. It increases our awareness of our thoughts, emotions, sensations, and surroundings. Then we’re better able to feel clarity and calm, as well as regulate our emotions.
Core Aspects of Mindfulness Meditation
When my clients give this a go, we begin by giving our attention to the present. That means focusing on what’s happening right now: the breath, bodily sensations, or sounds.
We notice our thoughts or feelings without labeling them as “good” or “bad.” It’s about simply observing. Instead of trying to change or resist what we experience, we allow it to be.
