Slow medicine originated in Italy after the slow food movement grew in popularity and is based on the idea that health is complex and involves more than just the body. Proponents believe that taking the time to learn about patients leads to more accurate diagnoses, better patient outcomes, and increased patient and physician satisfaction.
Principles of Slow Medicine
The principles revolve around providing personalized care, fostering a strong doctor-patient, nurse-patient, or even doula-client relationship, and promoting shared decision-making. It encourages healthcare professionals to carefully consider your needs, abide by your wishes, and avoid rushed or unnecessary medical interventions.
By adopting this approach, doctors and nurses improve their quality of care, and patients have a better experience.
